RE:        Paid Family and Medical Leave

Attached you will find information regarding the Massachusetts Paid Family and Medical Leave:

  • Notice of Benefits Available Under M.G.L. Chapter 175M

  • Employer Notice to Employee(s), Rights and Obligations under Massachusetts Family and Medical Leave Law, M.G.L. c. 175M

Please note that both Van Pool Transportation and JYL Transportation are required, as an Employer, to make contributions to the DFML Family and Employment Security Trust Fund.  You, as an employee, are also responsible for contributing into this fund via a payroll deduction contribution.

The Total Contribution to this fund is 0.75% of the maximum taxable earnings established by the Social Security Administration of $132,900.00.

  • Out of this Total Contribution of 0.75%:  0.62% is for Medical Leave and 0.13% is for Family Leave.

  • Medical Leave of 0.62%:  Out of this, 40% will be deducted from Employee Wages and 60% is the Employer’s responsibility.

  • Family Leave of 0.13%:  Out of this 100% contribution will be deducted from Employee Wages.

These deductions will begin October 1, 2019.  Please be sure to review all of the attached information to make yourself familiar with this benefit, which will be available to you beginning on January 1, 2021.

There is an acknowledgment form, attached, you do not need to sign this form if you reply to this email.   In the event that you refuse to sign this acknowledgement, we will permit you to sign a statement indicating your refusal to sign the acknowledgement form and this statement will be retained by us.  Your refusal to sign the acknowledgement form does not exempt you from the deductions from your employee wages.

To give you some perspective, please see two examples below:

  1. Employee A makes $14.00/hour and works 25 hours per week =$350.00 weekly (or $700 per pay period/bi-weekly)

    • $700.00 x 0.248% for Medical Leave = $1.74 per pay period

    • $700.00 x 0.13% for Family Leave = $0.91 per pay period

    • For a total of $2.65 per pay period

  1. Employee B makes $50,000.00/year salary = $961.54 weekly (or 1,923.08 per pay period/bi-weekly)

    • $1,923.08 x 0.248% for Medical Leave = $4.77 per pay period

    • $1,923.08 x 0.13% for Family Leave = $2.50 per pay period

    • For a total of $7.27 per pay period
